General Motors trademarks E-Ray again, sparking more murmurs about an electrified Corvette.
Is General Motors about to announce a hybrid or electric version of the Chevrolet Corvette called the E-Ray?
First trademarked in 2015, the US car giant has filed another trademark application for the E-Ray badge according to GM Inside News, suggesting a hybrid or electric version of the sports car could be just around the corner.
As reported earlier by CarAdvice, presidential candidate Joe Biden let slip about an electric Corvette during a short video posted on his YouTube channel.
“They tell me – and I’m looking forward, if it’s true, to driving one – they’re making an electric Corvette that can go 200mph,” the Democratic nominee said.
The video was posted as a tribute to his own Corvette, which was a wedding gift from Biden’s father in 1967 – himself the owner of a Chevrolet dealership.
In January 2017, CarAdvice spotted a Corvette frame sitting at General Motors’ battery development centre, further fueling speculation about the electrified sports car.
Reports from late 2019 suggest the hybrid Corvette ‘E-Ray’ will retain its iconic V8, but will receive the addition of batteries and an electric motor or motors, similar to the powertrain in a Honda NSX supercar.
